New Mexico
"Land of Enchantment"
Paul Ridley N5PR writes: The unit is a donated 1984 Winnebago
motohome, with about 65,000 miles. Good strong motor, but had been in some
rough places. We had to build a new front bumper (with stubs welded on, for
push-up poles for 40 and 80 meter dipoles. The transmission was overhauled,
two new air conditioners installed, outside painted and decals applied.
Installed a channel on the left side where several coax cables come out of
interior, run to the back of the unit and then up a channel to roof, to mount
antennas for 2-meter, Red Cross, etc. frequencies. Installed plastic elbow
close to coax channel for other coax to exit from operating position and go to
push-up poles on front bumper.
Inside, all carpet removed and tile installed. Removed dining table and
benches and installed operating desk with two positions. Closet shelving
removed and a 2-meter repeater installed. At the present time on the operating
position we have a duel-band Yeasu 8800 for 2-meters, and several handheld
radios. HF is a 890 Yeasu and an Ameritron ALS-500M (500 watt solid state
amplifier). We have the usual compliment of 12V power supplies to run the
radios and also have an onboard generator and will also be transporting an
extra 6KW generator.
As this is a "work-in-progress", we will be installing other
equipment such as computers, APRS, WINLINK, GPRS.
